The Department of English Programs of the American University of Armenia , Yerevan , has two openings for applied linguists at the Associate and Assistant Professor levels beginning August 2010. Responsibilities : The Associate Professor will teach four or five courses in the MA TEFL program (in the three 10-week quarters). S/he will also supervise M.A. theses and direct the activities of the Center for Research and Development in Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching. S/he will assist the Dean in carrying out administrative duties related to the Department's Programs.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, Teaching English as a Second/Foreign language or Language Education along with experience in teaching applied linguistics courses at the graduate level. As AUA is an English-medium university, native or near-native proficiency in English is required.
Teaching requirements: The candidate should have experience in teaching courses in at least two of the following areas: language acquisition, teaching methodology, curriculum design, pedagogic grammar, discourse analysis, research design and assessment. Some experience with supervising M.A. theses is also highly desirable.
Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience. Additional compensation could include payments for directing the Center for Research and Development in Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching. Benefits include air transportation to and from Armenia , housing allowance, and health insurance.

Faculty positions in the Computer and Information Science Program of AUA open at various times. Inquiries regarding open faculty positions are invited from faculty candidates. The positions of interest include renewable faculty positions and visiting faculty positions (one quarter term or longer). Areas of primary interest include, but are not limited to, Software Engineering, E-Business, Database Systems, Computer Networks, Object-Oriented Programming, Algorithms, Operating System, Architecture, Human Computer Interaction and Multimedia Systems.
We are seeking candidates with an earned doctorate in Computer Science or related field and graduate teaching experience. However, candidates at other levels and/or with research interests in other Computer Science areas are also encouraged to apply. Previous experience in conducting academic duties in an international setting is preferred, but not required. Recently retired or faculty in transition are encouraged to apply. In addition, U.S. faculty on sabbatical leave are strongly encouraged to apply.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The normal teaching load is two courses per term. Benefits include housing and round-trip travel. The language of instruction is English.
