THE MAPS OF ARMENIA

Former Regions within Present Provinces in Armenia

In order to complement our offerings in the area of Armenian Spelling and History, we now offer our visitors the opportunity to become acquainted with some Armenian maps.

With the gracious collaboration of the National Academy of Sciences, we present the currently out-of-print "Atlas of Armenia" that appeared in 1961. Our research into this book came up with the startling information that the original films used in its production were all burnt when the printing house in Minsk (that produced this Atlas) was destroyed by fire a few years ago. We thought it useful, therefore, to present this work in this medium for use by students, pupils, and the general public.

The other maps focus on the essential data of each (Soviet Armenian) region and (Independent Armenian) province. We hope that this may help students in Armenia or the Diaspora to become better acquainted with Armenia, insofar as this type of information is concerned.

The Research on Armenian Architecture maps may be of interest to those studying the ethnographic and cultural aspects of the areas covered by these maps. We appreciate the kind permission given to us by the organization to use their maps.

I would like to thank Lilit Khalatyan for spending many hours to help make these maps accessible through the Internet. We would appreciate your suggestions for improvement, as we believe that the Extension Program's mission includes reaching out to the community in this very way. Please send them to lilit@aua.am.
