On September 25, 2007, AUA’s School of Business and Management hosted a public lecture by Dr. Robert Britton, Managing Director of Brand Development and Advertising; Advisor to the Chairman of American Airlines; Ex Marketing and Global Communication Executive at American Airlines; and a globally recognized expert in the airline industry. During the lecture Dr. Britton discussed the transportation industry including such issues as why is it so hard for the airlines to make money? On Monday, March 12, 2007, AUA School of Political Science and International Affairs hosted a public lecture by Dr. Sharon Wolchik entitled “The Role of Women in the Post-Communist World.”
Dr. Sharon Wolchik is Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at George Washington University where she teaches courses on comparative governments and politics of Central and Eastern Europe and the international relations of the region. She has significant experience in the fields of Central and East European politics and policy making and the comparative politics of Central and Eastern Europe. Professor Wolchik is currently conducing research on the role of women in the transition to post-communist rule in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as on ethnic issues in post-communist societies and the development of party systems and other aspects of politics in the Czech and Slovak Republics.
Dr. Wolchik discussed the role of women in the region under communism, during the transition period after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and currently. In her talk, Dr. Wolchik emphasized that women in politics matters in the post-communist countries in part because women push the issues of vulnerable groups, social policies, and education which are crucial areas for post-communist countries.
