LL.M.
Program
A Practice-Oriented Appraoch
AUA's LL.M. program offers students the opportunity
to build the practical skills and knowledge necessary to
become an effective professional in an ever more competitive
global world. Our practice-oriented approach emphasizes
development of the analytical, advocacy and communication
skills that attorneys need to succeed. Our program affords
students a wide-range of opportunities to practice these
skills with instruction and daily interaction with highly
qualified professionals (see Faculty )
The LL.M. degree requires completion of 48
units of legal study, conveniently grouped into 6 thematic
modules and the writing of a Master's Paper. Generally,
1 module is offered per AUA quarter (see AUA's Academic
Calendar). Each module of study focuses on a specific area
of law or legal practitioner skill (see Curriculum ).
LL.M. students must complete all 6 modules, the Master's
Paper and an AUA Environmental course requirement within
a period of 3 years.
The LL.M. is a rigorous academic and professional
program. Instructors have high expectations of and for
students. The grading scale for coursework corresponds
to U.S. university law school programs (see AUA Law
Student Handbook ). In addition, AUA policy requires
students to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in order to graduate
(see AUA Catalog).
