THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS

EXCHANGE PROGRAM

THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESSThe Papazian library is initiating a brand new program with the Library of Congress. This program considers to augment the collection of trade publications, government documents and other materials on the basis of receiving and sending title-for title. The Library of Congress offers: currently available publications of duplicates in virtually all subject fields. On an exchange basis they would like to receive any publication available from and about our university -- books, serials, maps, posters, videos, etc. in Armenian, Russian or English.

The Library of Congress functions as the national library of the United States. Its resources are available to the Congress of the United States and to other agencies of the U.S. Government, and to the public for reference and research. To render the best possible service, the Library of Congress is continually making efforts to increase its collections of publications of governmental agencies and of scientific and cultural institutions in other countries, on the basis of exchange.

The Library of Congress is interested in receiving publications in all subject fields, with the exception of clinical medicine and technical agriculture in which the Library yields precedence to the National Library of Medicine and the National Agricultural Library, respectively. Besides books, pamphlets, newspapers, and periodicals in nearly all languages, it collects maps, microfilm, prints, and photographs, sheet music and recordings, and bibliographic information, but not reprints of offprints. The Library welcomes lists of materials which other institutions can offer on exchange.

In return for publications received, the Library offers:

(1) Currently available publications of the Library of Congress and of other agencies of the United States Government.

(2) Books selected from the Library’s large collection of duplicates of commercially issued publications in virtually all subject fields.

Because only those commercial publications which duplicate the Library’s holdings, or are surplus to its needs, are available for exchange, the filling of requests for specific titles cannot be promised. The Library however, can make selections in the subject fields designated by the exchange partner, or provide short lists of materials available in the desired subject fields.

Exchange is generally carried out on the basis of title-for-title (serial-for-serial and monograph-for-monograph) under the assumption that the materials exchanged are of approximately comparable frequency and monetary value. In certain cases involving publications of unusual expense, materials of equivalent monetary value are required.

All publications supplied on exchange, and correspondence relating to the exchange of publications, should be addressed as follows.
