Financial Assistance & Scholarships

AUA policy is that no qualified Armenian citizens  will be denied study at the University because of financial need.

The University provides financial assistance to a limited number of students. Students may apply for all forms of scholarships, loans, and financial assistance by completing the Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid. Some financial assistance programs and scholarships are restricted to Armenian citizens as described below.

New applicants to AUA should submit the Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid along with the Application for Admission.  Continuing AUA students should watch for announcements concerning deadlines for submitting the application.

Tuition Assistance (Available to Armenian students only)

The goal of the Tuition Assistance Program is to provide selected Armenian students with tuition assistance according to his/her documented financial need.  This allows for academically gifted but economically disadvantaged students to have an equal opportunity to attend AUA.  Awards are grants that do not have to be repaid and range from 20% to 90% of the total tuition costs.
Students may apply for tuition assistance once a year according to published deadlines using the Scholarship and Financial Aid Application.  This form is available in the Office of the Registrar, and must be submitted with all required documentation.  Applicants to AUA submit the Financial Aid Application with the Application of Admission.

Information provided by applicants and students will be kept anonymous and confidential and decisions are made by the Financial Aid Committee.  Information submitted will be spot checked for truthfulness and the penalty for submitting false information will be denial or revocation of any tuition assistance and exclusion from any future tuition assistance, including the Student Loan Program.
Awards are made for one academic calendar year.  Students must maintain good standing to continue receiving tuition assistance each quarter. Students are in good standing if they have a grade point average of at least 3.0 and are enrolled full-time in their program of study.

Student Loan Program (Available to Armenian citizens only)

AUA offers a loan program for AUA students to ensure that no qualified student who encounters financial obstacles is impeded from completing his or her education at AUA. Any student in good academic standing is eligible to apply for a student loan. Student loans may be applied toward AUA tuition only.  Students wishing to be considered for a loan must submit a Scholarship and Financial Aid Application, available in the Office of the Registrar, and a 5,000 AMD non-refundable application fee. This application should be submitted according to published deadlines for best consideration.

Applications will be reviewed by the Financial Aid Committee, which is made up of faculty, and will be evaluated on the basis of individual merit. Awards are dependent upon available funds.  Students may borrow up to a maximum amount of 480,000 drams for the duration of their studies. This amount is subject to change based on the availability of funds.  Students are encouraged to plan ahead for their financial obligations.

During the course of their studies, students will begin paying back their student loan at the rate of 15.000 AMD every three months. Upon graduation, students will receive a payment schedule for the repayment of their loans.

Those students withdrawing or dismissed from AUA must begin repayment immediately and have 60 days to repay the loan.

Tuition Support Program/Work Study (Available to all students in good academic standing)

Announcements concerning openings are sent via student email accounts.  Under this program, students may seek employment for up to twenty hours per week within the university, normally for the duration of one quarter. Such students are not considered to be AUA employees and, therefore, are not entitled to any AUA employee benefits. The wages earned under this program are to be used exclusively to cover a portion of tuition: students will not receive any funds to be used for any other purpose. Only students in good standing are eligible to apply under this program. Please check with the Office of the Registrar for more details.

Deferred Payments (Available to all students)

Students choosing to pay their tuition in fixed installments must submit an AUA Deferred Payment Application, available in the Office of the Registrar, after paying a minimum of 35% of their tuition fee due for the quarter. The dates for these installments are fixed by the Office of the Registrar.  Any outstanding debt from any installment is to be paid prior to registration for the next quarter. Please check with the Office of the Registrar for details.

Academic Scholarships:  A number of scholarships based on merit are awarded to deserving students.

Named Scholarships (Available to Armenian students):  Selection of recipients of privately funded scholarships is based on criteria established by the donors. Consequently, some scholarships may be awarded to any qualified student while others are only available to Armenian students or those studying in certain degree programs. Students wishing to be considered for scholarships should also complete the Application for Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Financial Difficulties

Any student experiencing financial difficulties is encouraged to meet with the Registrar or the Financial Aid Coordinator.  Our goal is to try to find a way for you to meet your financial obligations through the various financial aid programs offered by AUA.
