Intellectual Property and Copyright in Academic Libraries

AUA Papazian Library, in collaboration with the libraries of Yerevan State University, Yerevan State Medical University, and the State Engineering University of Armenia hosted a roundtable on intellectual property and copyright related issues on Tuesday, December 2, 2008. The purpose of this roundtable was to increase awareness and train library staff on issues in the rapidly changing world of information and technology. Hasmik Galstyan, eIFL-IP coordinator from AUA's Papazian Library shared her impressions and knowledge gained from November 13-14, 2008 Moldova conference on "Copyright: Enabling Access or Creating Roadblocks for Libraries?" Partnering with chief specialists from the Armenian Intellectual Property Agency and with AUA Legal Research Center Alumni, Papazian Library initiated the need for development of a Copyright Policy model for Academic Libraries. Susanna Nersisyan, director of "HayHeghinak" as well as author of a book on intellectual property talked about the relationship between the nature of copyright law and the needs of higher education.
